Hi, sorry Lou.
Finally got internet access up and running in my new apartment. I had actually gotten used to not having it, but the website was falling off the face of the earth along with my music career, so i figured it was time to let you know what i have been up to:
1. Moving...i was trying to make this decision about (seriously) leaving new york a couple of months ago and obviously, I decided to stay. However, the moving process has been harder and more grueling than I had anticipated and although I have been in the new apartment for three weeks now I just finished the necessary renovations yesterday. It is a sweet deal, rent stabilized, but part of the deal is that it hasn’t had an overhaul in over ten years. I built a loft and re-plastered the bathroom and re-painted everything, re-caulked the shower, shampooed the carpets and presto…one month and every moment of my free time later, it looks brand spankin’ new. After this week (I have company, my godmother and her daughter are coming to visit) I will have some down time and call you or practice some guitar, or hopefully both.
2. Singing with COCKROACH…has changed my life. Most of the time I really love it. It is such a relief to sing someone elses songs and not play guitar…like every band, we have some issues but we’ll work through them. It has, however, taken me into a creative slump. It is hard to be inspired to write, I find, when I always have someone elses songs in my head. Still, the positive things about singing with the band totally win, and I am really excited to finish our new demo. It should be out in about a month. It rocks.
3. Recording my stuff….or preparing to anyway. Being a poor musician who is having an EP produced by someone other than myself, I have to operate on a different schedule. Basically I am getting some heavy hitters in to play on this fully produced EP (that may turn into a full length, but who really knows) and I’m not paying for much of it so I have to be patient. We are in the song selection process and should start recording in a couple of weeks, but it could take months. I think that it will be worth the wait. It has always been my dream to have a fully orchestrated sound and I couldn’t afford to do it right with “heroine”. I will put up what I can when I get rough mixes and stuff.
Let’s see what else…the open mic is so big now that I had to go to a lottery system for sign up.
Aaron’s family, Grace and Dennis and Sarah and Graham, are all coming up in a couple of weeks and I can’t wait to see them. I put together a couple of hours of good music by Aaron’s friends so that we can all get together at the sidewalk and have a little gathering to remember him without getting too heavy. It has almost been two years and it still feels like it was yesterday.
I think that about covers it. I have been too busy to think about why I am not happy which has had the effect I was looking for and like a magic trick, I have been feeling pretty good. It is a hard city, and it is hard for me to be so far away from my family, but I have the greatest friends I have ever had, and I love my job and my new apartment. Just plugging along, you know. Trying not to wait for the next big thing.
Anyway, I’ve got some cool shows coming up if you wanna come out.
Have a great day!
Love you
