goodmorning vietnam.

i was awakened this morning, yet again, by the sound of polish construction workers in my kitchen. it has been several days now of heavy construction...i had thought that due to the massive power outage yesterday i would have a reprive, however, that was not the case. i think they were cutting my window moulding with a chainsaw. i am not kidding. and although the scaffolding they are using to reach the exterior of my apartment clearly says OSHA REGULATION, i honestly believe that there is no part of the current scaffolding configuration that would be approved by any OSHA representative. none. it has been my experience that scaffolding work best when level with perpendicular supports. apparently i have been doing everything wrong.

regardless...i use the tern vietnam because i have not had a back wall for three days now, much less operable windows, and the sheetrock dust that is covering everything in my apartment reminds me of..well..a war zone.

you may ask, "amy, did you have any notice about this construction in your apartment?" or "have you been given an alternative place to live in the meantime" or "do the polish construction workers speak english" or "do they ask you before they use your restroom and consistently miss the toilet."

no no no no.

on the upside...the blackout was a much needed break from work and electricity. i played guitar and read by candlelight and yesterday played a riviting game of monopoly and was reminded, yet again, of my poor, poor financial skills. my favorite part was the walk from work to home on thursday, surrounded by people, all in high spirits, walking across the williamsburg bridge. it was really beautiful and i couldn't help but think about the loss of power equating to the loss of control and how much of a relief it was to have nothing to do but walk.

and then a woman accidentlly stepped on my toe and cracked my toenail and i started bleeding everywhere, but that was just for a brief moment and it meant i could go up to the hot EMT's at the foot of the bridge and ask for some gauze. i could not have planned it better. just kidding.

the loss of power did, however, mean the cancellation of the last show i had scheduled until september, so for those of you who were planning on coming to see me thursday, thank you, and sorry about that. keep checking the gig page for updates on new shows.

as for the website, i have a new look that will be up and running soon. i hope that you will like it. it is going to take some time to finish, but in the next month there will be a photo gallery with video clips, downloadable music, a press kit and a lot more. it's just to cool for school.

on a side note, the construction workers are seeming to have a difficult time starting their gas powered saw. i am tempted to go help but i don't want to make them look bad.

i think i am going to take this opportunity to re-paint my apartment. i can't play guitar because it is to freakin' loud, and i can run the airconditioner because i have no way of preventing the air from leaving my apartment, so i may as well get some excercise and do some painting.

hey...thanks to all of you who are my friends and were concerned for my safety during these last couple of days. and i just want you all to know that i really care about you and hope that everything is going well in your lives.

if things are not going so well, take a walk. preferable at least two hours...over a bridge. i find that it does wonders for the perspective.

love you

after careful consideration and blind disregard of the stack of bills on my desk, i decided to go back to my natural hair color. for those of you that actually thought i was blond, i am sorry. truth be known, i am not. i was born a bright blond beautiful baby, but then somewhere around third grade, i became a boring medium brown and stayed there until i had the lead in cabaret in college and they died my hair. alas, i again, am a boring medium brown and quite content i must say.

now if i could only go back to the busty woman i once was. just kidding.

the reason why i bring up the hair, however, is not to warn you about the slight change in my appearance, but to tell you the interesting story of the actuall cut and die process.

i was reccomended to go to a salon in the lower east by a girl at work who has good hair, so being the not so girlie girl who never gets her hair cut on her own free will (my mother always makes me do it and pays for it because she is a nice southern woman who is more concerned about my appearance than i am), i trusted the judgement of another woman and called and made an appointment. the man that she reccomended was not working there anymore because he is not with SNL (saturday night live) so i just said, "ok, whoever is available", knowing full well that i could really be in for anything.

long story short (no pun intended), not only did i get a good haircut and my hair really does look like my natural color, but the guy, Daryll, did the movie with aaron and some work on law and order and we randomly came about that in conversation. and what's more he knows nick and eric, these photographer friends of mine and works on their shoots. now, honestly, what are the odds that i can go to some random hair place and get a guy that had been working with aaron and knows my friends? (side note, if you want a good haircut you should go to him at kropps and bobbers on orchard just above stanton)

on a different note, as expected, i have had some slow turns in the recording process, mostly my problems. i have six songs recorded but it may take a month to get the rest done. i am in and out of town and working a lot, and to top it all off, i can't play the remaining songs very well, so i have decided that instead of sitting down for hours trying to get something perfect in front of a mic, i should practice for hours and record it perfectly the first time. tonght i am going to try to do baby and chicken, but if not, they will come soon.

i have a show this week that i am really excited about. it is at the sidewalk cafe, and it is a birthday party for matt singer. i start off the evening at 7:30 (maybe a little earlier) and then Danny Kelly and Beau Johnson will play. i think it may be the best bill i have ever been on at the sidewalk. three of my favorite men.

and then i get to get up at 4am to take a bus to ithica for the weekend for a wedding. my buddies from the band jump little children will be there and are playing. i have to wear two dresses, on to the rehearsal dinner and then to the wedding. i don't know when the last time was that i wore a dress twice in one week. i better watch out. i my come back and be converted to girlness. i did play with barbies as a child.

sam is coming over this week so that we can work on the site, for those of you that care, so watch out, big changes in the works. thank you for your patience.

hey, have a great week, hope to see you thursday.

love you
